Name of the University: Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg
Name of the Faculty: School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
Fields of Study: Electrical Engineering; Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications; Engineering, Technology
Descriptiom of the curriculum: Microelectronics has not only triggered the enormous growth in information and communication technologies but it has also become an important factor in many other areas. In recent years, technologies originally developed for microelectronics have been increasingly applied to the fabrication of miniaturised systems in electromechanical, electrooptical, analytical or biomedical applications. The new discipline is called Microsystem technology. The future development will certainly result in the integration of microsystem components with microelectronic devices. In order to be able to cope with this challenge, the TUHH has introduced an innovative Master programme in Microelectronics and Microsystems which combines both aspects. The standard duration of the course is two years. In the first year students take part in lectures, exercises and laboratory work. During the lecture-free period after the second semester an internship takes place, followed by a project and a subject-specific seminar or a process design course in the third semester. The course of study is completed with a six-month Master thesis in the fourth semester. The technological challenges of modern society and the requirements of the globalised labour market call for an excellent engineering education as well as for a sound additional qualification in the fields of business and management, soft skills, and humanities. Therefore, the international Master degree courses at TUHH include a minimum number of non-technical compulsory elective courses.
Educational admission requirements: Applicants should hold a Bachelor degree or an equivalent degree in Engineering, preferably specialising in Materials science, and must show a very good previous academic performance.
Language admission requirements: Applicants must show a sufficient proficiency in English by passing TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 PBT/ 213 CBT/ 79 IBT, or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5.
Special services: The integration programme for international students Welcome@TUHH offers assistance at the beginning of the studies at the TUHH. This programme also accompanies students through the whole degree programme and helps them to integrate into the campus community more easily. The programme is supported by international student tutors who are very well acquainted both with studying at the TUHH and living in Hamburg and who accompany newcomers to orientation and cultural activities, international meetings and offer them a chance of joining a study group. Studierendenwerk Hamburg and Accommodation Office TUHH have entered into cooperation to design a programme with the purpose of increasing the number of rooms available to applicants who aim to complete a degree programme at TUHH and are arriving directly from abroad. The aim of this programme is to provide as many students in their freshmen year as possible with a room in a hall of residence upon their arrival in Germany. Students who have obtained a room in this programme will have the possibility to take up email contact with special student residency tutors from the programme “Compass — Live-in Student Orientation”. These tutors will be able to give further information about the day-to-day life in student halls of residence in Hamburg. They will also be able to assist on the newcomers’ arrival in Hamburg and help them make a good start of their course at TUHH. Throughout the year they will also be available offering interesting activities in the student halls so that the freshmen can get to know other students more easily.
Scholarships: To a limited extent, partial funding in the form of performance-related scholarships, scholarships linked to support work and scholarships for the final phase of the programme are available to international students at TUHH. For more information, please see.
